What our clients say
Helping you Define and then Delight your Market to deliver Growth
“We want you to bring in more business” was the message to Paul when he joined one firm but there was a problem. Who was doing all the marketing? Paul rather harshly observed the partners and lawyers were like “the eternal flame” because they never went out! The easy answer would have been to spend a lot of money on marketing resource and activity. However, fundamental to the approach of Paul and Judith is that marketing is not a department but a way of doing business.
The ‘brand experience’ a firm delivers is one of the biggest factors in determining how much new business is achieved. By setting a clear strategy based on market position and service delivery, agreeing clear outcomes and by linking activity to reward and recognition they released a huge amount of marketing energy within the business without the need for large budgets and marketing teams.
”Judith was responsible for creating a new marketing strategy for us. Before doing that she got us to concentrate on addressing a range of improvements to our client service to help create some real differentiation from our competitors and an effective brand experience. Judith then helped us define our target audience more clearly and create the right messages for them before working with us to develop innovative and effective marketing plans for our locations and service lines. She then ensured with her focus and sense of humour that initiatives were seen through”
Helping you adapt your structures to strengthen your business
For the modern law firm flexibility is key if the business is to thrive and survive in a fast changing and competitive landscape. The traditional partnership model is not always a great way of delivering that flexibility not least because of the challenges faced with funding and, indeed, with reaching decisions. Firms also find, often too late in the day, that a strong business structure is key to delivering a merger. We have helped businesses restructure their Partnership and move to corporate structures, thereby separating the roles of ownership, management and professional.
“Doing nothing was not an option in the face of the changing legal landscape and the funding needs of the business to address partner retirements and growth requirements, all in a very different post-crisis, banking context.
Working with the Partners and our Bank Paul helped guide and deliver a complete restructuring of the business, enabling us to present a whole new feasible and attractive opportunity for the next generation of partners, and ease the financial burden of future retirements. With a new corporate management structure came the agility and flexibility to pursue mergers and other growth opportunities. We were immediately able to secure a merger within three months to completion within a spirit of trust and professionalism. Nothing is achieved without challenging issues along the way but this progressive approach was just what was required”.
Helping you to Improve your Profitability for a Secure future
In an age of technology and innovation law firms often find it hard to release the time to address the inherent inefficiencies in their business operations. Someone once said “if management are not looking at the processes, they are not managing”. It makes sense that if the core processes are efficient it will release time for key individuals to develop their business and serve their clients better. With many years of experience in delivering efficiency change, not simple cost cutting, we help our clients improve their profitability and the client experience.
“With over 30 years experience as a boutique property business, our traditional approach to client care has ensured we are never short of great clients and quality work. However, our old fashioned values have not served us quite so well in recent times when it has come to running the business.
With only two equity partners we need some new leaders, but until we improve the operational model that will not be easy. Light on management resource, Paul and Judith have come to our aid. They have helped provide a structured approach to improving our business operations and are now helping us implement these plans. As shadow partners, their advice and support has been invaluable and as managers they have already made improvements to our business. We are well on the way to making our business attractive for new partners to invest in.”
Helping Invigorate your People to enhance Performance
The best ideas will usually be waiting to be released from your existing people.
Our client was facing some challenges. Clients were becoming unhappy with the service /price ratio and beginning to question whether they would better transferring to the competition. At the same time the staff base was incredibly committed and loyal but increasingly stressed by trying to keep the clients happy. No one had the time or space to step back and work out how to re-invigorate the business despite the fact that there were a lot of ideas floating around. Pathways were delighted to be invited to help and undertook a business review with staff and clients, proposed a list of actions and helped the organisation implement them.
“We were a pioneer in our sector but, after 10 years at the top, we knew we had to make some changes if the competition were not going to leap frog us. In addition our growth had meant perfectly good processes that worked for many years needed to be re-evaluated to ensure they supported the business as it grew.
Many of us had been here from the start and so, to make any really change, we needed a fresh perspective, and outside ideas. You never know everything and have to always strive for improvement irrespective of how good you think you are, so timely outside input is crucial for any growing business striving for continued success and improvement.
Paul and Judith were able to provide the independent analysis we needed through really effective engagement with our management team, our staff and our clients. Working together they guided the creation of our exciting new strategy but also helped us to begin the process of putting that strategy in to action.
Paul and Judith helped us refine our direction, approach and release the energy to begin our next phase of business success”
